Wisconsin Hiker Revives Boyfriend Twice After Lightning Strike
Two couples survived lightning-related emergencies, with bystanders and loved ones helping save their lives. In Wisconsin’s Kettle Moraine State Forest, Eva Broderick performed CPR twice on her boyfriend Nick after lightning struck a nearby tree and ground current knocked them both down; poor cell service delayed rescuers, who took about 50 minutes to reach them. Nick spent three days in the hospital, and the couple later married; Eva is set to receive a lifesaving award for her actions. In Florida, Aaron and Clare Walegna were critically injured by lightning while walking on the West Orange Trail, and witnesses called 911 as a bystander began chest compressions. Clare suffered a concussion and short-term memory loss, while Aaron experienced temporary vision and movement problems and facial bruising; both later described their survival and recovery with gratitude.
