Wisconsin Posts $3.3B Surplus, Record $2.1B Rainy-Day Fund
Wisconsin ended fiscal year 2026 with more than $3.3 billion in its General Fund, about $350 million above budget estimates, and a record $2.1 billion in its rainy-day fund. State tax collections rose roughly 3.4% from the prior year and exceeded projections. Gov. Tony Evers said the balances show the state can cut taxes and invest in schools, roads and other services while maintaining its finances. A proposed package of taxpayer rebates and additional school funding failed in the state Senate, leaving decisions about the surplus to future state leaders.
