Wisconsin Supreme Court Declines Dugan License Suspension

The Wisconsin Supreme Court declined to immediately suspend Hannah Dugan’s law license after her federal felony conviction for obstructing immigration agents who were attempting to arrest a defendant at the Milwaukee County Courthouse. The ruling allows Dugan to continue practicing law while the Wisconsin Office of Lawyer Regulation pursues formal disciplinary proceedings that could eventually revoke her license. Dugan, who resigned as a Milwaukee County judge, was sentenced to time served and a $5,000 fine. Chief Justice Annette Kingsland Ziegler and Justice Brian Hagedorn dissented, arguing that a serious-crime conviction generally warrants suspension.
