Woman Charged in Oakwood Campus Stabbing
A 25-year-old Oakwood University student, Dameesha Norice Macklin, was arrested and charged with first-degree assault after allegedly stabbing another student during a campus altercation early October 25. The victim was treated at a hospital and discharged with injuries described as not life-threatening; Macklin is no longer enrolled at the university, and her bond was set at $30,000. Huntsville police said the incident appeared isolated and they had no indication of an ongoing threat to campus. The victim’s mother says she had previously alerted university officials to an alleged threat by Macklin and is frustrated with the university’s response; the university says it has policies for addressing campus conflicts and is cooperating with the investigation.
