Charlie Woods shoots opening 71, sits four back at Junior Players
Charlie Woods opened the Junior Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass with a 1-under 71, placing him around ninth and four strokes behind leader Chase Bauer. The 17-year-old made five birdies and four bogeys, including a par save on the famous 17th hole after his tee shot landed on the surrounding footpath rather than in the water. Woods returned to the event after tying for 31st last year, when he made a hole-in-one on the par-3 third, and is seeking stronger results after several disappointing finishes during the 2026 season. The tournament runs through Sept. 6 and features 78 top junior golfers; Woods is competing on a sponsor exemption.
