Kohberger Hearing Set to Withdraw Plea
Idaho Judge Steven Hippler has set a status conference for June 3, 2027, and an evidentiary hearing for June 17, 2027, as Bryan Kohberger seeks to withdraw his guilty plea. Kohberger, now 31, was sentenced to four consecutive life terms after pleading guilty in 2025 to four counts of first-degree murder and related burglary. He continues to claim ineffective assistance of counsel and that his plea was not voluntary due to promised incentives and alleged threats. A new attorney, Greg Rauch, now represents him in the post-conviction petition. The court has warned both sides to follow Idaho Rules of Court Procedure and limited admissible evidence, with sanctions possible for noncompliance. Prosecutors have indicated they could pursue the death penalty if new evidence or circumstances at a hearing warrant it, even though the plea deal had spared that possibility.
