Nepal–Tibet Flood Crisis: Toll Rises, Rescue Efforts Expand

Nepal–Tibet flood disasters have killed roughly 900-plus people with more than 4,000 missing, as rescue operations intensify across the border region. A large share of the missing are hydroelectric workers, many trapped in tunnels at projects including Upper Trishuli-1, Upper Trishuli-3B, Langtang Khola and Chilime. Operations face shortages of key equipment such as thermal cameras, life-detection devices, cutting tools, ropes and even helicopters, complicating access to dangerous terrain. International aid is arriving, with Australia pledging substantial assistance and teams from India and China assisting in rescues. Rescue teams are conducting tunnel-by-tunnel searches in hydroelectric facilities as teams press on to locate those unaccounted for.
