Menendez Brothers Granted March 2027 Parole Hearings

Erik and Lyle Menendez have been granted parole suitability hearings tentatively scheduled for March 2027, advancing their next review by more than a year from August 2028. The brothers were convicted in 1996 of killing their parents, José and Kitty Menendez, in their Beverly Hills home in 1989 and were initially sentenced to life without parole. After being resentenced to 50 years to life in 2025, they became eligible for parole but were denied at their first hearings because of prison conduct, including reported possession of illegal cellphones and alleged gang ties. The earlier hearings were authorized under California provisions allowing parole reviews to be advanced when circumstances change or new information suggests possible suitability. Their family welcomed the decision, citing the brothers’ accountability, rehabilitation and work establishing a hospice program and prison beautification initiative, but the hearings do not guarantee release.
