Commentary ahead of Sept. 11 anniversary recalls post-attack volunteerism

Robert Spencer “Hawk” Miller, 76, of Paris, Tennessee, died Sept. 1 and was privately buried at Memorial Cemetery; he was remembered for his career in sales, Elks Lodge membership, friendships and love of airplanes and cars. William Thompson “Bill” Looney, 82, a Paris attorney, funeral-home owner and cattle farmer, died Sept. 6; funeral services and burial were scheduled for Sept. 11, with family, church and community members honoring his six-decade marriage and lifelong commitment to hard work and service.
