One Dead, Three Missing After Bahamas Plane Disappears

A Piper PA-34 carrying four members of a Florida family disappeared Monday while flying from Great Harbour Cay in the Bahamas to the Miami area after air traffic controllers lost contact about 13 miles west of Andros Island. Those aboard were pilot Mario Lamar, 80; his wife, Lili Lamar, 79; and their grandchildren, Sofia Sosa, 28, and Christian Sosa, 22. One person has been found dead, although relatives have not publicly identified the individual, and a civilian family member recovered the body after weather delayed or limited the official search. Authorities are searching for the remaining three people, with the U.S. Coast Guard, Royal Bahamian Defence Force and others involved. Flight-tracking data indicates the plane encountered severe weather, circled and then disappeared from radar; the cause of the crash remains undetermined. The family is asking boaters, fishermen, pilots and other civilians to help locate the missing people and aircraft.
