Communities Nationwide Plan 25th 9/11 Tributes

Communities and college campuses across the country are marking the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks through memorials, service projects and tributes to those who died. In East Islip, New York, student-athletes wore red bandanas and raised money for the Welles Remy Crowther Charitable Trust, honoring the 24-year-old 9/11 hero known as “The Man With the Red Bandana,” whom current President Donald Trump posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Ashland University students are installing nearly 3,000 flags to represent the victims while reflecting on how 9/11 shaped a generation born after the attacks. Marquette University will host nearly 700 volunteers to pack more than 155,000 meals for southeastern Wisconsin families as part of the national 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance. Student-athletes at Augusta University also volunteered at a Tunnel to Towers 5K honoring fallen firefighter Stephen Siller and supporting Gold Star families.
