BRICS Leaders Bridge Divisions to Adopt New Delhi Declaration

BRICS leaders unanimously adopted the New Delhi Declaration 2026 at the 18th BRICS Summit hosted by India, after negotiations continued into the early hours and bridged divisions involving Iran, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia over the West Asia conflict. The expanded 11-member bloc called for conflict prevention, dialogue and diplomatic dispute resolution, while warning against unilateral military action, coercive measures, tariffs and other trade restrictions. The declaration supports reform of the UN Security Council and greater participation for developing countries and the Global South in international decision-making, along with stronger multilateralism and WTO reform. It also backs greater use of local currencies in intra-BRICS trade and expanded cooperation among emerging and developing economies. Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged members to turn the consensus into concrete outcomes and develop proposals for a BRICS reform roadmap.
