Trump Reverses Plan to Livestream Hasan Execution
President Donald Trump reversed Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s plan to livestream Nidal Hasan’s firing-squad execution, scheduled for December 3, saying it would instead be viewable in person by victims’ immediate families. Hegseth had defended public access as a way to demonstrate the consequences of terrorism. Before the reversal, U.S. Military Archbishop Timothy Broglio condemned the livestream proposal, citing the Catholic Church’s opposition to capital punishment and concerns about the dignity of the condemned and potential moral injury to soldiers. Broglio urged Catholic service members assigned to the firing squad to seek exemption. Hasan was sentenced to death for killing 13 people and injuring more than 30 in the 2009 Fort Hood attack.
