Passenger rescued alive after 20 hours at sea

A 44-year-old Salvadoran passenger went overboard from Royal Caribbean’s Odyssey of the Seas near Zakynthos, Greece, early Oct. 9, and was rescued alive about 20 hours later. Greek authorities and nearby vessels searched through the night before a cargo ship found her conscious in a life ring and brought her to safety. She received first aid and was taken to hospital for examination, including a psychiatric assessment. A coast guard spokesperson said she told rescuers she jumped because she wanted to disembark; authorities are investigating. Royal Caribbean said it was assisting her loved ones and working with authorities.
