Police Shoot Armed Man on CSU Campus, No Others Hurt

A CSU police officer shot and injured an armed man near Newton Plaza on the university’s Fort Collins campus Monday evening after responding to a report of erratic behavior around 5:35 p.m. University officials said the man advanced toward the officer with a handgun; a student witness told the campus newspaper that he believed the man fired first, though that account has not been confirmed by investigators. The officer rendered aid, and the man was taken to a hospital; no other injuries were reported, and officials said the incident was not an active-shooter situation. The campus issued an all-clear for the nearby Chemistry and Microbiology buildings at 6:50 p.m., although police remained in the area. Fort Collins Police Services is leading the investigation, with the Eighth Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team activated.
