Authorities Remove 44 Dogs From Vallejo Home

Authorities in Vallejo removed 44 dogs from a Carolina Street home Thursday under a search warrant in an active animal-cruelty investigation, describing the residence as a hoarding situation with animal waste and dogs kept in cramped conditions. The dogs were sent to area shelters for veterinary evaluations, and officials said the large seizure would strain shelter capacity. The home is linked to Susan Anthony, a breeder previously convicted of animal cruelty and subject to an order barring her from owning dogs, which she has appealed; Anthony said the dogs belong to her 99-year-old mother and are healthy and cared for. Neighbors said they had endured years of barking and odor, while Anthony described the seizure as traumatic for the animals. Separately, more than 70 animals—including cats, ferrets, a guinea pig and a dog—were removed from a Tennessee home during a welfare check, with officials reporting health problems and arranging treatment and placement with verified rescues.
