Teacher, Three Students Killed in Bend School Shooting

A 16-year-old gunman killed Silver Rail Elementary teacher Megan Lambert, 25, also reported as Meghan, and three children ages 5, 8 and 11 in a special education classroom in Bend, Oregon. Two others were critically injured. Lambert, a Boise State graduate and Central Oregon native, had recently started her first full-time teaching job. She coached volleyball and waived extra pay so children whose families could not afford it could participate. Her family thanked a bystander who intervened. New York Post reported a teacher threw a cellphone at the shooter and tackled him. The record does not settle whether that is the same act as the bystander intervention the family thanked, or how the gunman was stopped.
