Russian Diesel Cargo Leaves Primorsk, Destination Unconfirmed
The Malta-flagged tanker Agioi Fanendes left Russia’s Primorsk port carrying about 40,000 metric tons of diesel; tracking data has at times listed New York as its destination, with arrival expected around Nov. 7, but its final discharge port has not been confirmed. The cargo would be the first direct Russian diesel delivery to the United States in years and is part of President Donald Trump’s deal with Moscow to resume fuel exports, following discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. sanctions relief. Trump has promoted the deal as a way to ease fuel prices, while Energy Secretary Chris Wright has described access to export revenue as leverage to encourage Russia to reduce its war effort. Ukrainian officials, European allies and lawmakers from both U.S. parties have criticized the move, warning it could benefit Moscow; energy experts say the initial shipment is too small to meaningfully lower U.S. prices.
