Two Killed, 10 Injured in Wichita Soccer-Field Crash

A Chevrolet pickup drove onto a soccer field at Wichita’s Stryker Sports Complex on Saturday afternoon, killing 6-year-old Adrian Cole and 35-year-old Nicholas Schafer, who were unrelated and both from McPherson. Ten other people, including children, were hospitalized with noncritical injuries; another woman was taken to a hospital for unrelated medical complications. The truck had been parked near the fields before it drove onto the playing area. The 34-year-old driver’s two children were in the vehicle, while another of her children was elsewhere at the complex. The driver was released pending toxicology testing and a mechanical examination, and no charges have been filed as investigators continue to determine what happened. McPherson officials and community members expressed condolences and offered support to those affected.
