Children Killed, Injured in Crashes Nationwide

A series of pedestrian-vehicle crashes involving children and other pedestrians occurred across several U.S. communities. In St. Cloud, two children were seriously injured in a crosswalk collision, and police cited the driver for failing to yield; an accompanying adult was not hospitalized. In southwest Oklahoma City, a 12-year-old student died after being struck by two vehicles, while two other juveniles were treated for minor injuries in a separate crash; incidents in Lynchburg also left children injured. In Salem, an 8-year-old boy struck near Chapman Hill Elementary School and two 12-year-old football players struck in Christian County, Kentucky, are expected to recover; the Kentucky district is considering a bus to help students cross to practice. In Norwalk, two children were reportedly struck in a crosswalk by a driver who fled, but were not seriously hurt; a first-grade boy died after being struck near Mifflinburg Elementary School in Union County, Pennsylvania. Separately, a pedestrian struck by a police vehicle in Egg Harbor Township was hospitalized, and prosecutors are investigating.
