Man Charged After Shots at Chicago Federal Building
Federal prosecutors charged 36-year-old Edmund J. Horvath of Lynwood with illegally possessing a firearm because of a prior misdemeanor domestic-violence conviction, after he allegedly fired shots near Chicago’s Kluczynski Federal Building early Tuesday. Authorities say Horvath rode a bicycle down a parking-garage ramp and fired after a security officer asked him to leave; he was arrested nearby with a 9mm handgun, and spent casings were recovered at the scene. Horvath allegedly admitted firing the weapon and said people were chasing him. No one was injured, but gunfire damaged the federal building and a building across the street. He was scheduled to make his initial federal court appearance Wednesday.
