Woman Sues Chicago Fraternity Over Alleged Sexual Assault
A 19-year-old woman identified as Jane Doe, who is not a University of Chicago student, sued Alpha Delta Phi’s national organization and its Chicago chapter, alleging a member sexually assaulted her at a fraternity party on Feb. 7. The lawsuit says she became impaired after drinking a shot, was taken to a bedroom, and was later found unconscious by a friend. It alleges the chapter had a history of sexual-assault reports that it failed to address. Chicago police said the case remains under investigation. The university is not named as a defendant, though the suit seeks information from it; the university said it was prepared to assist police and committed to preventing sexual assault. The fraternity said it suspended the member involved and would cooperate with law enforcement.
