University of Arizona suspends fraternity amid assault investigation
The University of Arizona suspended Sigma Phi Epsilon’s activities while it investigates allegations that the fraternity served alcohol to minors and created a dangerous environment at two unregistered events. The action followed a report by a student who said two fraternity members sexually assaulted her at a party on Aug. 26; the allegations are under investigation, and no arrests or charges have been reported. The suspension bars the fraternity from hosting, attending, participating in or sponsoring organizational activities, though it may hold business meetings. The chapter was already on probation over separate hazing and misconduct allegations, as university officials cited a broader rise in fraternity cases.
