Magnitude 7.0 Earthquake Strikes Tibet

A magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck Baqen County in Nagqu, northern Tibet, at about 10:33 p.m. local time Thursday, roughly 400 kilometres from Lhasa. China’s earthquake agency and German researchers placed the quake’s depth at about 10 kilometres, while other seismic data cited a depth of 173 kilometres. No immediate reports of casualties or damage were available. The quake renewed concern in a region still dealing with rescue and recovery after deadly floods and landslides near the Nepal-China border in August, which left thousands missing.
