Attack at Jordan Church Kills Up to Eight
Gunmen opened fire during a funeral at a Greek Orthodox church in Hammoud, in Jordan’s Karak Governorate. Initial reports said six people were killed and 28 injured; a later account cited eight dead and at least 40 injured. King Abdullah vowed the attackers would face the harshest retaliation, said security forces were pursuing suspects, and stressed the attack would not divide the country. Jordanian religious and political figures condemned the violence and emphasized Muslim-Christian solidarity and national unity; Kuwait, the UAE’s Federal National Council, and Egypt’s Al-Azhar and Dar Al-Iftaa also condemned the attack and offered condolences.
