FAMU Homecoming Shooting Injures 12, Including Six Children
At least 12 people were injured in a shooting near Florida A&M University's Bragg Memorial Stadium in Tallahassee just before 8 p.m. Saturday as crowds left the homecoming football game against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Eleven sustained gunshot wounds; six of the injured were juveniles, including an 11-year-old. A twelfth person, the grandmother of one gunshot victim, was hurt while fleeing. The shooting was near the intersection of Perry and Manatee streets. Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell said officers carried victims before the scene was secure. "I stand before you tonight devastated… We had officers who were picking up victims and carrying them in their arms to transport because they couldn't get through the mass of people." He said authorities believe it was an isolated incident between two or three individuals after a physical altercation. No arrests had been announced. FAMU said the campus remains safe but urged people to avoid the area. Outlets differed on severity: Fox News reported one critical, two serious and eight stable; the Mirror and ANI described three seriously injured including one critical, with eight or nine stable. Detectives were seeking those responsible and asked the public for information.
