Atlanta Man Dies After Nashville Bar Fight; Suspect Cites Self-Defense

Torey Ward, 45, of Atlanta, died after a fight outside a downtown Nashville bar around 2:30 a.m. Sunday. Police said the dispute began after an encounter between Ward’s girlfriend and another patron, Keith King Jr., 37; witnesses reported King punched Ward and put him in a chokehold, which King said he did because he feared for his safety. Ward died at a hospital, and the medical examiner has not yet determined the cause of death; no charges have been filed as police continue investigating and plan to submit their findings to prosecutors.
