SCSU Professor Dies After New Haven E-Bike Hit-and-Run
Southern Connecticut State University English professor Mike Shea, 74, died Oct. 24, nearly two weeks after an e-bike rider struck him in a marked crosswalk on Whalley Avenue in New Haven and fled. Police say the rider passed vehicles stopped for pedestrians before hitting Shea and leaving without stopping; no arrest has been made, and authorities are asking the public for information. Shea joined SCSU in 1985, and colleagues and students remembered him as a generous, funny and devoted teacher who challenged and encouraged students and left a lasting mark on the university community. His colleague Tim Parrish, who worked with him for 32 years, said Shea went to great lengths for students and changed many lives.
