Two Juveniles Arrested in Gastonia Woman’s Killing

Two juveniles have been arrested in connection with the Oct. 19 fatal shooting of 68-year-old Pamala Shanks, who was sitting on her back porch in Gastonia, North Carolina; investigators do not believe she was the intended target. A 16-year-old was arrested at Dulles International Airport on Oct. 23 while allegedly trying to leave the country for Africa, and a 17-year-old was arrested in upstate South Carolina on Oct. 27 while on the run. Authorities have withheld their identities because they are minors and say the investigation remains active. The arrests brought relief to family and neighbors while renewing concerns about community violence and youth crime.
