Swiss Panel Rules Israeli Bobsled Commentary Discriminatory

A Swiss broadcasting complaints panel ruled that RTS commentator Stefan Renna’s coverage of Israeli bobsledder Adam Edelman at the 2026 Winter Olympics breached the prohibition on discrimination. The nine-member panel voted 5-4 to uphold four complaints, finding that the prepared commentary—focused on Edelman’s views about the Gaza war and questioning his eligibility—stigmatized him and treated him differently from the other competitors. RTS had earlier removed the clip and said the commentary, though factual, was inappropriate for a live sports broadcast. Edelman dismissed the remarks, while the panel said its ruling can be challenged in federal court.
