Magic City Classic murder
A 17-year-old in Fairfield, California, has been charged with murder and other offenses in a targeted shooting at a Spirit Halloween store that killed 31-year-old Constance Hages and wounded six people; prosecutors are asking a judge to move his case to adult court, and Hages’ pregnancy has not been confirmed by the coroner. Separately, Birmingham police charged a 17-year-old with murder and possession of a machine-gun conversion device in connection with two shootings near Legion Field after the Magic City Classic. The gunfire killed 19-year-old Dre’Shawn Thomas and wounded eight others, one of whom remained in critical condition; authorities say the suspect had a Glock conversion device and that the investigation may lead to further arrests. The Birmingham shootings occurred amid a violent weekend that also included two other fatal shootings unrelated to the Classic.
