Rogers Park Fire Death Toll Remains Unclear

A fire broke out early Thursday in a four-unit townhome on North Paulina Street in Chicago’s Rogers Park neighborhood, sending four people to hospitals, with several reports describing them as critically injured. The reported death toll is conflicting: one Chicago Sun-Times report said four people died, while other accounts said no human fatalities had been reported that morning. The fire was contained to one unit, and its cause is under investigation. Separately, a three-alarm fire in a Sunset Park, Brooklyn, home killed six people, injured four residents and three firefighters, and displaced eight residents; its cause is also under investigation.
