D.C. Father Indicted in 7-Month-Old Son’s Death

Dion Phelps, 29, has been indicted in Washington, D.C., on first-degree felony murder charges in the death of his 7-month-old son, King, along with two counts of cruelty to children, two counts of assault and felony threats involving a witness. Police found King unresponsive at an apartment on Morris Road in March 2023; he was pronounced dead at the scene. The medical examiner ruled the death a homicide caused by complications of blunt-force trauma to the infant’s torso. Phelps was arrested in October 2023 and remains in custody, while authorities have not publicly detailed how the injuries were inflicted. King’s grandmother described her grief and said she would miss everything about him.
