World No. 1 Rybakina withdraws from Tokyo quarterfinal with injury
Elena Rybakina withdrew from her Pan Pacific Open quarterfinal in Tokyo with an injury, identified by some reports as a neck injury, after struggling for several days. The world No. 1 said she could not compete at full strength and was prioritizing recovery ahead of next month’s WTA Finals; she had secured the year-end No. 1 ranking with her win over Yulia Putintseva. Her withdrawal gave Leylah Fernandez a walkover into the semifinals, where she was set to face Kamilla Rakhimova.
