Trump Says He Would ‘Love to Have’ Haley Stevens Join GOP

President Trump told reporters that he would "love to have" Rep. Haley Stevens join the GOP after she endorsed Republican Mike Rogers over Democrat Abdul El-Sayed for Michigan Senate, two days before the midterms. "She did the right thing," Trump said. Speaker Mike Johnson said he had sent her a note and told her to stay safe. Trump called El-Sayed "a Muslim Brotherhood guy," said "They're dangerous—they're jihadists," and added, "Yeah, I'd say she's in danger." Stevens released a video endorsing Rogers during a Detroit church service Sunday and told reporters outside she is voting for him. A separate planned unity event with El-Sayed and Rep. Jim Clyburn at another Detroit church fell apart after she was disinvited following her Friday statement on an ad about grocery prices she called antisemitic. After fiancé Jason Turkish said Wednesday he would vote for Rogers, she told CNN she supported El-Sayed. Michigan Democratic chair Curtis Hertel said she is not a party member now or in the future. Outlets differ on why she switched: Daily Mail highlighted primary-loss "sour grapes" and an invite snub; Free Beacon the ad fight and safety; TMZ and The Hill led with Trump's invitation. Stevens said she remained a proud Democrat.
