Xi Pushes Advanced Manufacturing Self-Reliance as Exports Rise
Chinese President Xi Jinping called for the country to expand and strengthen advanced manufacturing while improving control over key industrial supply chains. Speaking at a conference in Beijing, Xi emphasized greater technological self-reliance and the development of a modern industrial system centered on advanced manufacturing. The push comes as rising Chinese exports of electric vehicles and other green technologies fuel concern in Europe about renewed competitive pressure. Premier Li Qiang also urged faster adoption of artificial intelligence, digital technologies and next-generation intelligent manufacturing, although China’s high-tech expansion has not yet produced stronger household incomes or consumption.
