George Conway agrees with calls to shut down his organization, The Lincoln Project after a report surfaced suggesting some members knew about alleged abuse by one of its co-founders as early as March.
A report by The 19th claimed some members of the organization knew about sexual harassment allegations against co-founder John Weaver early on.
The Lincoln Project on Monday released current and former employees from nondisclosure agreements to discuss their âworkplace environment.â
âAn investigation is necessary. But it has to be thorough, and not a whitewash. AndâTHE LYING HAS TO STOP. Itâs clear now that, as early last MARCH, the people who were in operational control of the Lincoln Project were told of Weaverâs predations. Enough is enough. LP needs to waive the NDAs and come clean,â Conway wrote on Twitter on Tuesday.
Conway responded to a call for the organization to be shut down, âItâs a shame, and we shouldnât forget the hard work of so many people and the positive things the organization did, but yes, I think this is right.â
Weaver is facing allegations he sent unsolicited suggestive messages to young men, as IJR reported.
The group released a statement in response to the allegations last month, âJohn Weaver led a secret life that was built on a foundation of deception at every level. He is a predator, a liar, and an abuser. We extend our deepest sympathies to those who were targeted by his deplorable and predatory behavior.â
It continued, âWe are disgusted and outraged that someone in a position of power and trust would use it for these means. The totality of his deceptions are beyond anything any of us could have imagined, and we are absolutely shocked and sickened by it.â
The organization also stressed it had been âbetrayed and deceived by John Weaver.â
âWe are grateful beyond words that at no time was John Weaver in the physical presence of any member of The Lincoln Project,â the statement continued.
The Lincoln Project was organized by Republicans seeking to launch attacks against former President Donald Trump.
