Vice President-elect Kamala Harris says Americans chose a path of unity and decency by voting for President-elect Joe Biden and have turned the page on a divisive four years.
In her first address since the presidential election was called for President-elect Joe Biden, Harris said on Saturday, “When our very democracy was on the ballot in this election, with the very soul of America at stake and the whole world watching, you ushered in a new day for America.”

She continued to praise the Biden campaign staff and poll workers around the country for working to turn out voters and count the ballots that were cast in the election.
She added, “To the American people who make up our beautiful country, thank you for turning out in record numbers to make your voices heard.”
Harris acknowledged the “grief, sorrow, and pain” many Americans have faced as the coronavirus ripped through the country leading to more than 237,000 deaths and millions of job losses.
“For four years, you marched and organized for equality and justice. For our lives and for our planet. And then you voted,” Harris said. “And you delivered a clear message. You chose hope and unity, decency, and science. And yes, truth.”
“You chose Joe Biden as the next president of the United States of America. And Joe is a healer, a uniter, a tested and steady hand. A person whose own experience of loss gives him a sense of purpose that will help us as a nation. And a man with a big heart who loves with abandon,” she added.
