Hegseth Accuses Kelly of ‘Babbling’ About Classified Briefing

CHANDLER, ARIZONA - MAY 8: A portrait of former U.S. Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) is displayed as U.S. Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) holds a press conference after a veterans town hall at John S. McCain VFW Post 7401 on May 8, 2026 in Chandler, Arizona. A federal appeals court on Thursday appeared unwilling to allow U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth's attempt to demote Kelly for posting a video urging U.S. troops to not follow illegal orders. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth accused Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) of “babbling” about a classified Pentagon briefing.

Hegseth said the matter will be reviewed by the Department of War’s legal counsel.

“‘Captain’ Mark Kelly strikes again,” Hegseth posted on X Sunday night. “Now he’s babbling on TV (falsely & dumbly) about a *CLASSIFIED Pentagon briefing he received.”

“Did he violate his oath…again? [The Department of War] legal counsel will review,” Hegseth continued.

Hegseth’s post was in response to a post by “Face the Nation” moderator Margaret Brennan about Kelly’s interview on the show earlier in the day.

Should the legal counsel review Hegseth's accusation against Kelly regarding classified information?

“After hearing the Pentagon classified brief on Iran war impact on US weapons stockpiles, Senator Mark Kelly says it is ‘shocking how deep we have gone into these magazines,’” Brennan wrote. “He said the Tomahawks, ATACMS, SM-3, THAAD rounds, Patriot rounds, so those interceptor rounds to defend ourselves have been hit hard. He says it’ll take years to replenish those stockpiles, which could affect a hypothetical US conflict with China.”

She did not include Kelly stating President Donald Trump “got our country into this without a strategic goal, without a plan, without a timeline.”

Watch:

Senate Armed Services Committee member Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) says the Pentagon has updated lawmakers on how many attack missiles and interceptor rounds have been fired off since the start of the war with Iran, and he says “it’s shocking how deep we have gone into these… pic.twitter.com/hxabwbJr1m

“The American people are less safe,” Kelly said. “Whether it’s a conflict in the Western Pacific with China or somewhere else in the world, munitions are depleted.” He also questioned what the American public is getting out of the Iran war.

This is the latest I’m the ongoing animosity between Hegseth and Kelly.

Hegseth criticized Kelly last fall for his “seditious” behavior, when Kelly and five other Democrats shared a video where they urged troops to “refuse illegal orders.”
