If Vice President Mike Pence is unwilling to invoke the 25th Amendment and remove President Donald Trump from office, House Democrats are prepared to begin impeachment proceedings.

Rep. Katherine Clark, the assistant House speaker, told CNN on Friday she believes Democrats could vote as “early as mid-next week.”

She argued, “Donald Trump needs to be removed from office and we are going to proceed with every tool that we have to make sure that that happens to protect our democracy.”

Clark called every day Trump is in office “a day of grave danger” and accused Trump of inciting a “seditious mob” to riot at the U.S. Capitol.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) joined other Democrats on Thursday in calling on Pence to remove Trump from office, as IJR previously reported.

Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) became the first Republican to support the idea of invoking the 25th Amendment.

“I call for the vice president and members of the Cabinet to ensure the next few weeks are safe for the American people and that we have a sane captain on the ship…It’s time to invoke the 25th Amendment and end this nightmare,” Kinzinger said in a video he posted to Twitter on Thursday.

He added, “The president caused this. The president is unfit and the president is unwell. And the president now must relinquish control of the executive branch voluntarily or involuntarily.”

Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) weighed in on whether he would consider articles of impeachment, as IJR previously reported.

“The House, if they come together and have a process, I will definitely consider whatever articles they might move, because as I’ve told you I believe the president has disregarded his oath of office,” Sasse said during an interview on “CBS This Morning.”

He continued, “He swore an oath to the American people to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution. He acted against that.”
