A tense exchange unfolded this week when Rep. Ilhan Omar lashed out at a reporter pressing her about major discrepancies in her financial disclosures.
According to the New York Post, the confrontation came after revised filings dramatically altered the reported net worth of Omar and her husband, Tim Mynett.
An earlier disclosure in May 2025 listed the couple’s assets as ranging between $6 million and $30 million. But an amended filing, reported last week, placed their wealth between just $18,004 and $95,000.
Omar has attributed the gap to accounting mistakes.
When approached on Tuesday by a Lindell TV reporter, the questioning quickly escalated.
“Congresswoman Omar, the last time I spoke to you, you said I was stupid for asking about your financial disclosure, but there’s some discrepancies on there. Would you like to explain that? How did you make such a big mistake?” the reporter asked.
Omar fired back sharply.
“I think you’re stupid for asking me anything,” she said, responding with a sarcastic smile.
“I don’t want to tell you jack s***. How about that? Have a good day.”
The dispute comes amid heightened scrutiny of Omar’s finances. A previous report indicated her net worth had surged significantly in 2024 based on the original disclosure, which she has since disavowed.
Mynett, who has worked as a political consultant, is tied to several business ventures. These include a Washington, D.C.-based venture capital firm, Rose Lake Capital, and a winery in Santa Rosa, California.
In the initial filing, the winery listed assets between $1 million and $5 million, while Rose Lake Capital reported assets ranging from $5 million to $25 million. The firm had also previously claimed on its website to manage tens of billions in assets.
However, Omar’s amended disclosure — filed after inquiries from the Office of Congressional Conduct — reflected those businesses as having no net value once liabilities were accounted for.
A spokesperson for the congresswoman said the updated filing supports her position.
“The amended disclosure confirms what we’ve said all along: The congresswoman is not a millionaire,” spokeswoman Jacklyn Rogers said. “The congresswoman amended her disclosures voluntarily as soon as the discrepancy was identified.”
Republicans have seized on the issue, calling for further scrutiny. Tom Emmer, the House GOP whip, said investigations are ongoing.
“If Ilhan Omar is discovered to have been involved in any or to have benefited in any way from any fraud, she must be held accountable,” Emmer said. “By the way, that includes marriage fraud.”
