2-Year-Old Found Dead as Illinois Mother Faces Murder Charges

An Illinois mother is facing three counts of murder after her 2-year-old son was found unresponsive inside the family’s Frankfort home Tuesday.

Corie A. Walsh, 40, was also found with injuries believed to have been self-inflicted when police responded to the residence, according to Fox News.

The injuries were not considered life-threatening, and Walsh was receiving medical treatment Friday.

Officers were called to the home Tuesday afternoon after the boy was discovered unresponsive. CPR was performed before the child was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The circumstances surrounding the death have drawn comparisons to the high-profile case involving Massachusetts mother Lindsay Clancy, who was accused of killing her three children before attempting to take her own life.

According to prosecutors, Walsh had been closely following Clancy’s trial and discussing the case in an online group chat while the jury was deliberating. Those discussions reportedly took place only hours before Walsh’s son was found.

Court documents reportedly state that Walsh believed her son was the “anti-Christ” and the “devil.” The allegations are part of the case against her as investigators continue working to establish what happened inside the home.

A neighbor reportedly discovered the boy hanging by his neck from a rafter in the basement. Authorities have not publicly released additional details about the circumstances leading to his death.

Three other people were inside the home when officers arrived and were found unharmed, according to police.

Walsh is expected to be transferred to the Will County Adult Detention Facility after she is released from medical care. She will remain in custody while awaiting a court hearing.

The case has left residents in the community struggling to process the death of a young child.

Carolyn Pappas, who lives nearby, told NBC Chicago that the circumstances immediately reminded her of the Clancy case.

“This is just absolutely devastating, that this could be another Lindsay Clancy situation in our neighborhood, in our community,” Pappas said. “You never think it's going to hit so close to home.”

Frankfort police expressed sympathy for the family and others affected by the death while asking residents to respect their privacy.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, their loved ones and everyone affected by this heartbreaking tragedy,” police said.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities examine the events inside the home and prepare the case against Walsh.
