Rep. Ilhan Omar is facing renewed scrutiny over her immigration history after federal agents searched her Washington, D.C., residence and investigators issued subpoenas to members of her family.
The New York Times reported Tuesday that Omar’s sister, Sahra Noor, and at least one other person in her family circle have received subpoenas as part of an investigation into possible fraud and false statements connected to immigration paperwork.
Fox News also reported that multiple family members have been subpoenaed.
The developments followed Monday’s search of Omar’s home by Homeland Security Investigations agents. The Justice Department confirmed that federal agents executed a judicially authorized search warrant as part of an ongoing criminal investigation.
Two sources familiar with the matter told Fox News Digital that the investigation involves Omar’s immigration paperwork. The exact scope of the inquiry has not been publicly detailed.
Omar has rejected allegations of immigration wrongdoing and accused the Trump administration of targeting her for political reasons.
“I’m ok. Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement,” Omar wrote Monday on X. She also accused President Donald Trump of carrying out a yearslong campaign against her and vowed that she would not be silenced.
Another issue receiving attention is a change to Omar’s listed birth year. According to emails reviewed by the New York Post, her congressional staff contacted the Minnesota Legislative Reference Library in May 2019 and requested that her birth year be changed from 1981 to 1982.
The library’s director said Omar’s staff was also working to correct the year in Wikipedia, the Biographical Directory of the United States Congress, and other references. The library’s original 1981 listing had been based on other reference materials and was added without supporting documentation, according to the Post.
