Miami Officials Name Five Killed in Amazon Plane Crash

Miami authorities have identified the five people killed Sunday when an Amazon cargo plane overran a runway at Miami International Airport and crashed into vehicles near the airport.

According to Fox News, Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz released the names Tuesday as investigators continued examining what caused the Boeing 767 to leave the runway during its landing.

The victims were identified as Rolando Aleman Leon, 55; Yoel Rodriguez Naranjo, 53; Julio C. Pineda, 75; Carlos Acosta Fajardo, 53; and Javierkys Reyes Quevedo, 47. The National Transportation Safety Board said all five people who died were inside vehicles struck by the aircraft, not aboard the plane.

Five other people were injured in the crash. Three remain hospitalized, with two in critical condition, while the plane's pilot and co-pilot were treated and released, according to Cordero-Stutz.

Amazon Air Flight 7598 was operated by 21 Air and was completing a flight from San Juan, Puerto Rico, to Miami. The aircraft was on its third flight of the day when it overran Runway 30 during its landing Sunday afternoon.

NTSB Chairwoman Jennifer Homendy said the plane traveled roughly 1,300 feet beyond the paved runway. It struck navigational equipment before hitting a white 2012 Ford Econoline van carrying seven people.

The aircraft then broke through the airport's perimeter fence and struck a Toyota Corolla Cross traveling on Northwest 67th Avenue. It continued into a grassy area and hit another fence near a location where Tesla robotaxis were stationed.

The aircraft burst into flames after the crash and prompted a major emergency response at the airport. Investigators are now working to determine why the cargo jet failed to stop after landing.

The NTSB has recovered the aircraft's flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder as part of its investigation. Officials have not announced a final cause for the crash.

The deaths are also being investigated by Miami-Dade homicide detectives, according to the sheriff's office.
