A Minnesota father has been convicted of killing his 16-year-old son after the teenager disappeared and his remains were later discovered at a landfill.
According to Fox News, Jordan Dupree Collins Sr., who represented himself during the trial, was found guilty Wednesday of second-degree murder in the death of Jordan “Manny” Collins.
Manny’s mother, Ashley Berry, previously remembered her son as someone who regularly helped others and brought kindness to the people around him.
Anoka County Sheriff Brad Wise said the verdict cannot erase the family’s grief but expressed hope that it would provide some measure of justice.
According to the criminal complaint, Manny went to his father’s apartment in May 2025 and was never heard from again. His mother and girlfriend told investigators they last communicated with him during the early morning hours of May 8.
Collins later told Manny’s mother that the teenager had left his Columbia Heights apartment that afternoon to travel to St. Paul to see his girlfriend and grandmother. Investigators said Manny’s girlfriend disputed that account, telling police during her last video call with him that he had not said he was planning to visit.
Police searched Collins’ apartment on May 15 after obtaining a warrant. Investigators reported finding garbage bags, located inside a living room closet, containing items with what appeared to be blood.
DNA testing later determined that the blood belonged to Manny, according to authorities.
The investigation expanded in early June, when local law enforcement, the FBI and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension began searching an Elk River landfill.
Investigators had obtained surveillance footage showing a garbage truck emptying a dumpster located behind Collins’ apartment. The footage led authorities to search the landfill for evidence connected to Manny’s disappearance.
The search continued until June 28, when investigators found Manny’s body.
An autopsy determined that the teenager had likely been decapitated with a knife, according to the case information.
Collins was arrested July 7, 2025, and has remained in custody since then.
The conviction brings the criminal case closer to sentencing, though Collins’ punishment has not yet been determined. He is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 2, 2026.
Wise said the sheriff’s office continues to keep Manny’s family in its thoughts, particularly his mother, as they deal with the loss of the teenager.
