Apple Music announced Monday that the 56-year-old rapper will headline the Apple Music Super Bowl LXI Halftime Show at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, on Feb. 14, 2027.
According to Fox News, the news was revealed during halftime of the Dallas Cowboys-Philadelphia Eagles game.
"GOAT’s out of the bag," Apple Music wrote on X while tagging Jay-Z.
The announcement follows weeks of reports that Jay-Z was being considered for the coveted performance. Puck News previously reported that he had been selected over Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber, while TMZ reported that Harry Styles was also among the names being considered.
Jay-Z described the opportunity as a milestone in a career that began with his 1996 debut album, "Reasonable Doubt."
"From Reasonable Doubt to standing on the Super Bowl Halftime stage, this has been a journey," Jay-Z said in a statement released with the announcement. "Thirty years of music, work, and culture on the world's biggest stage. This run continues to be a dream come true."
The rapper has also been closely involved with the Super Bowl halftime show for years. Jay-Z and his entertainment company, Roc Nation, have worked with the NFL on producing and selecting halftime performers since 2019.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said he had long hoped Jay-Z would eventually perform himself.
"For several years, we’ve had the privilege of working closely with Jay-Z and Roc Nation, and I’ve seen the extraordinary impact he has had on the Super Bowl Halftime Show," Goodell said.
Goodell added that when the NFL first partnered with Roc Nation, he made one request: that Jay-Z eventually take the stage when he felt the timing was right.
Jay-Z will also be returning to a stadium he knows well. He recently completed his Jay-Z 30 Tour with consecutive performances at SoFi Stadium on Oct. 23 and 24.
The Super Bowl performance will mark Jay-Z's first appearance as a halftime headliner. His wife, Beyoncé, previously headlined the show in 2013 and returned in 2016 alongside Coldplay and Bruno Mars.
