‘Rocky Horror’ Star Tim Curry’s Cause of Death Confirmed

Tim Curry died from coronary artery disease, according to records from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

The actor, who was 80, died Aug. 25.

According to Fox News, the records also listed a history of stroke and kidney cancer as contributing conditions, while noting that Curry had not undergone surgery for any of them.

Curry's death was confirmed by his publisher, Jimmy Franco, senior director of publicity at Grand Central Publishing.

"Yes, it is true and very sad indeed," Franco said, adding that he did not have a statement to share at the time.

The Los Angeles Police Department also confirmed that officers responded to a home at approximately 11:20 p.m. Tuesday for a death investigation involving a man described as being in his 80s. Police said there was no indication of foul play.

Curry became one of the most recognizable figures in pop culture after portraying Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the 1975 film "The Rocky Horror Picture Show."

He first originated the role in the 1973 London stage production before bringing the character to Broadway and then the big screen. The movie, which also starred Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick and Meat Loaf, went on to become a cult favorite known for midnight screenings, audience participation and songs such as "The Time Warp."

Curry's career extended well beyond "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." He played Pennywise in the 1990 miniseries "It," Wadsworth in "Clue," the concierge in "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York" and Cardinal Richelieu in "The Three Musketeers."

His work across theater, film and television earned him three Tony Award nominations for "My Favorite Year," "Amadeus" and "Spamalot." He also won a Daytime Emmy Award and received a Primetime Emmy nomination.

Curry suffered a major stroke in 2012 that left him using a wheelchair. Despite the setback, he continued working, particularly in voice acting.

He later returned to live-action film, appearing in the 2024 movie "Stream." His career ultimately spanned decades and included some of the most recognizable characters in film, television, and theater.
