Rosie O'Donnell is considering a return to the United States after celebrating the Democrats' midterm election victories, telling The Washington Post that being separated from her family has made life in Ireland difficult.
The comedian and former talk show host moved to Ireland after President Donald Trump won a second term in 2024, according to Fox News.
Although she has enjoyed living in Dublin, O'Donnell said the distance from her children and grandson has left her thinking about moving back to New York.
"Dublin is beautiful — we love it here, but my family's not here," she told the newspaper.
O'Donnell said she especially misses her grown children and a grandson who was born six months ago. She added that she feels she has already missed a significant part of his life and does not want to lose more time with him.
Her comments came as she reacted to Tuesday's election results in a TikTok video, celebrating Democratic victories that gave the party control of both chambers of Congress.
"It's a beautiful morning in the world," O'Donnell said. "The Trump regime is over, thank you America. I knew we would do it; I knew it in my heart."
She also praised voters for turning out and called for investigations into the administration, referring to what she described as unconstitutional and un-American actions.
O'Donnell said she had gone to bed early in Dublin because she was too anxious to follow the election returns. She woke around 3 a.m. to a flood of messages from friends and family, prompting an emotional reaction.
She said she was overwhelmed and chose to wear a blue sweater that morning to mark the Democratic victories.
The White House responded to O'Donnell's remarks with a sharply worded statement to Fox News Digital, calling her a "nasty woman" and criticizing her comments about Trump.
The comedian's feud with the president dates back to 2006, when she criticized him during her time on "The View" over his handling of a controversy involving a Miss USA winner.
Trump has previously threatened to revoke O'Donnell's citizenship after she relocated to Ireland. Earlier this year, she also guest-hosted Jimmy Kimmel's late-night program, using her final opening monologue to criticize Trump and refer to him as "orange Voldemort."
Despite her public celebration of the election results, O'Donnell's comments to The Washington Post suggest that family ties may play a major role in deciding whether she returns to the United States.
