Trump Blasts Judge Over Proposed 2029 Trial in Charlie Kirk Case

President Donald Trump is demanding a much faster resolution to the assassination case involving Charlie Kirk after the defendant's attorneys proposed waiting until 2029 to begin the trial.
According to Fox News, Trump sharply criticized the judge overseeing the Utah case Friday, arguing that the proceedings should not take several years to reach a verdict.
"The judge in the Charlie Kirk case is doing a terrible job!" Trump wrote on Truth Social. He said the case should be tried within a month rather than three years and accused the judge of delaying the process while asking questions for which, in Trump's view, the answers are already known.
The comments came after attorneys representing Tyler Robinson submitted a court filing proposing a tentative trial start during the third quarter of 2029.
Robinson's defense team pointed to the massive amount of evidence that remains to be reviewed. The attorneys also cited the complexity of selecting a jury in a case where prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
The defense argued that locking in a trial date now would create what it called "false precision." Attorneys said that could place unnecessary pressure on the court and both sides while potentially affecting Robinson's constitutional rights.
"From the point of view of defense counsel, appointment to a capital case brings with it a slew of responsibilities that apply in no other context," the defense memorandum stated.
Robinson's attorneys said they must thoroughly examine evidence concerning both guilt and the potential punishment before the court settles on a trial date.
They warned that rushing the proceedings could leave attorneys with insufficient time to address required legal matters, including complicated pretrial motions. The defense also argued that the stakes of a potential death sentence require an especially careful process.
