Cruz Eyeing Presidential Run in 2028

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) apparently has his sights set on a presidential run in 2028.

“The Wall Street Journal” reported Wednesday night that the senator is

asking people to work on his potential 2028 presidential campaign.

This isn’t the first time Cruz has eyed the Oval Office.

Cruz ran for president in 2016, when current President Donald Trump won both the nomination and presidency.

Trump lost in 2020, after which Cruz decided not to run in 2024.

Vice President JD Vance is expected to run in 2028.

“The 2028 contest hasn’t started yet, and there is still a midterm election in November. Vice President JD Vance, who is leading in early polls of potential Republican nominees, is campaigning for candidates in tough races and fundraising for the party, The Journalreported. “But Cruz, the Texas senator and firebrand conservative, is already putting in the legwork in Iowa, hitting the podcast circuit and embarking on a book tour. He is also quietly asking people if they would be interested in working on his 2028 bid, according to people familiar with the requests.”

A Cruz spokesperson declined to comment.

Another possible contended in 2028 is Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who has said he will not challenge Vance.

The Journal reported Cruz has taken digs at Vance. This is especially true regarding Vance’s role in the negotiations with Iran.

“JD negotiated the MOU with Iran. That was a terrible deal,” Cruz said.

According to the Journal, those in the vice president’s circle have dismissed a Cruz run in 2028. Those insiders claim Cruz would not pose a major threat to Vance getting the Republican nomination.
